Grief

Grief is that feeling you get when you want to reach out and touch someone one more time, only to realize they are no present. It's about having a broken heart. Grief is the normal and natural reaction to significant emotional loss of any kind.

Grief is not confined to death or divorce. The list can be comprised of over 43 loss experiences such as losing a job, losing a pet, moving, miscarriage, illness, trauma, crime, etc. When these powerful disruptions occur we are left feeling wounded. Sometimes we feel like the hole is so deep that it can never be filled. We wish we could move on if only we knew how.

I received my certification in grief recovery from the Grief Recovery Institute. The Grief Recovery Program is very effective in teaching you ways to complete the pain attached to a recent loss, or one that occurred long ago. The program is a wonderful adjunct to therapy or works alone as a brief form of counseling.

I have found that almost everyone who steps into my office has a long history of unresolved grief. The answer then is to back up and clean up the hurts of your past so that you can move forward and enjoy your life in the present. Pain can be lethal when it's allowed to fester inside your body. Emotional release is cathartic and necessary for emotional and physical well-being.
